Not On Knitting

(Well, I have been knitting but I have a little bit on the top of my mitten, and the thumb, and then! Fix the other, and finish the pattern! Oh so close!)

But this is about doors. So, living here at college, I go through alot of doors, into and out of building and classrooms, in my room, into other's rooms, just alot of doors.

And as far as I know, it is proper etiquette to at least try to hold the door open for the person behind you, and I normally will at least stop a second or two to hold the door open with my back arm for the person behind me.

Also, I believe it is still proper for a boy to at least ATTEMPT in SOME way to open a door for a girl, women, etc. It's just respect as far as I know.

But today, I was struck with the second time I tried to go through a door and a boy came through it before me (going in the opposite direction) and literally SLAMMED the door behind him. I don't know if they are doing this on purpose, but it's rude, disrespectful and just plain weird! I thought everyone's parents taught them to hold doors - regardless of genders. I don't need a full-out doorman guy but a simple, "I'm standing here with my arm behind me holding the door, but not 'opening' the door for you" - that's fine.

And the worst part? After that guy slammed the door, a guy that was with him held it open for me. This has happened before, people just slamming the door behind them (not even a heavy door, but literal arm swinging behind them on purpose. (This happened to me before today, when I had my hands full too!)

It just makes me so angry. I wish the boys - no, just the people at Hartford would understand that door holding is just a social respect thing. It's not optional if you're a good person.

(Promise, next time, there'll be knitting!)

I'm de-lurking here, just to tell you that I SOOOO agree. It drives me crazy when people don't hold doors open. Not even guys, but everyone!
