Whew

Today, I haven't sat down. Well, sort of! I got home and meet up with beki so she could help me with my prom dress (I had to cut the hem). So, obviously, while she was there, she learned how to spin on the spinning wheel.

Then, chaos ensued. I did as some suggested beginner wheel spinners do - practice just treadling. But, beki would start to talk to me as she was practicing and the wheel would stop! (the single treadle makes it easier to stop, and harder to start)

And let me tell you, Beki makes the FUNNIEST faces when she's upset, confused or just flustered (which happens alot!).

Practicing treadling...

(I told you...)

and then spinning....

I swear, it was hysterical. Imagine while she's making those faces and the wheel is stopping periodically, I keep the "beat" by constantly saying "treadle, treadle, treadle" to make her to remember to treadle, and she keeps forgetting not to let the twist into the drafting zone (which she keeps calling the "grafting zone" or the "brafting zone"...), and then finally we come to the end of the little bit of fiber that she spun. I plied it to aviod lots of tangles, and then there was the yarn!

Which was, sadly, a very ugly color. I dyed some yarn on sunday, and the roving I dyed was not pretty. She and I decided that it was good idea to overdye it....

And it totally was a good idea (it ended up purplely blue-teal - gorgeous!).

Despite the slight frustration we probably both felt, it was fun, and totally worth it (as you can see from the picture above!).
