Sweater Vest: finished!

Well, here it is, in all its cut and sewn glory.



It looks a little lumpy, but its not any worse then a store bought seamed sweater. (Besides, I'm not wearing it).

About that sewing. It was terrifying. Like I might have nightmares. Honestly, I didn't know what everyone was fussing about. What does it matter if you cut your knitting? And then, I picked up the scissors, and the serial killer music started playing. It was sooooo scary and as I picked up the scissors, I swear I heard the yarn scream "NO, Please, take them!!!". I felt so bad as I sewed down their little unconnected ends, and snipped the ones that were misbehaving.

And now I am free to do whatever I want knittingwise, because there are no more deadlines of any sort. So I can start this:



Well, the sweater that that swatch is for. If I can figure out exactly what to do. I used a raglan formula that seems like it will work.

But, I want to finish those endpapers first (My hands are cold!!!), and also get rid of my extra wool in a felted accersories bag pattern from weekend knitting. I have three knitting books and about six knitting magazines and I've made one project out of all combined. Just one pair of armwarmers.

I blame my generation. I like being able to search: sweater, cardi and come up with what I want. I don't like turning pages to see maybe, if the book has the pattern. Wow, I'm lazy.

My frustration with a VERY nice looking Sweater Pattern

So I went on craftster.org today, and saw the cutest cardigan. It was Ubernatural, in magknits. So I found some acrylic yarn that a friend gave me, and knit a couple swatches, and finally decided on a needle size and then cast on. It's a very chunky knit, 7 sts for 4 inches, so I figured I could possibly finish tonight (!!!).
So then I started to read the pattern.
Row 1: (WS) Knit.
Now, if its the wrong side in a flat pattern, wouldn't you purl? So I did. That's fine, moving on. So then the next row was raglan increases: yo, pm, yo. Two yarn overs in a row? WTF? So I look at the picture. There is definitely a knit st between the yarn overs. So I add the extra st. I get to the end of the row and well, I don't have enough sts (how surprising). So then I try and go to craftster, to see if they have any suggestions. Well, craftster is down at the moment. I hate them all.
And here is a picture, so you understand my misery (notice the unfinished, abandoned endpaper mitts under all of this):

Edited: Ok, I think I've the pattern fixed, I substracted four sts, two from the side sections and two from the middle one, and then all the stitchs fit!!
But this experience definelty made me much less excited about Ubernatural. Oh well. I get new yarn tomorrow!!

Socks and Yarn, socks and yarn. (And a Snow day)

That's the other thing I'm working on. You know those little socks that you wear with flats? Well, they are not nice to my feet, so I thought I could make some. That was a while ago and I realized I had no idea how to make socks a the time. So then I made socks and the Twinkle toes from knitty and then I realized that they were the same construction. So I figured the ratio and did some math and I think (THINK) I can make some. And that figuring is what I did above.
Another thing. About that cardigan I mentioned in the last post - my camera died, so I had to scan the swatch. I have the below yarn, a green, a goldish bronze and two skeins of white. So stripes it is.

I think that's on the eights, and I really like the st definition.
